Sois perjantai ja viikko loman alkuun (taas), joten jotain erikoisempaa piti kehittää. Viikko italian lomasta sai haikailemaan jotain saapasmaan tarjontaa ja Kalasataman rakennustyömaalla oli muistaakseni joku mesta. Pienen eat.fi etsiskelyn jälkeen paikka löytyikin. Kyseessä on siis Presto Trattoria joka tarjoaa italialaista ruokaa ja jolla on myös lounaslista, vaikka päivän listaa ei webskasta löydykään.

A small Italian restaurant right next to the bridge that you can take to Mustikkamaa island. The lasagne I had was not that great.

Tänään tuolla elusiivisella listalla oli tarjolla: Lasagne della Casa (8,50e), pasta al forno (8,50e), insalata di feta (8,50e), spaghetti bolognese (8,50e), bistecca al pepe eli pippuripihvi (10e) sekä pizza dello chef (10e). Näiden lisäksi kaikki pizzat olivat myös tarjouksessa (8,50e tai 9,50e en näe kuvasta enkä muistanut tarkistaa raflassa). Kaikkiin annoksiin kuuluu salaattibaari (jäävuorisalaatti, vihreitä oliiveja, härkäpapuja, tomaattia, kurkkua, punajuurta, paria kastiketta ja pitsataikinaleipää) sekä loppuun kahvi. Tilaus ja maksu hoidettiin tullessa tiskille, itse valitsin (tottakai) lasagnen. Vedet ja aseet yms löytyvät pöydistä.

Alkusalaatti oli perussettiä. Leipä oli ihan ok, pienillä yrteillä maustettu. Ja sitä leipää tuli haettua myös lasagnea varten lisää.

Lasagne saapui seminopeasti pöydään erinomaisen kuumassa astiassa. Mutta happotesti paljasti, että keskikohta lasagnesta oli vielä lähes jääkaappikylmää, eli oli varmaan pizzauunissa tms lämmitetty, mutta ei ihan tarpeeksi kauan. Toinen mikä tässä heti häiritsi, oli että osa juustosta siinä lasagnen päällä oli jämähtänyt sellaiseksi kovaksi kuoreksi. Valitettavasti tämä lasagne lässähti aika peräjoukkoon kokonaisuudeltaan.

Tomaattikastike oli myös snadisti liian “nuorta”, eli ihan kuin tätä jauhelihakastiketta ei olisi maltettu työstää tarpeeksi kauan tai sitten vaan tomaattipurkki mitä on käytetty ei ole ollut niin hyvä. Noin muuten lasagne oli mehukas, pasta oli ihan hyvää ja lihaa yms komponentteja oli riittävästi, kastiketta ehkä jopa melko runsaasti.

Tämä oli tällainen ruokaisa peruslounaslasagne. Mutta kovin jäätiin jälkeen niistä erinomaisista lasagneista mitä on tullut vastaan.

Sisustus on persoonallinen, jännillä, sinänsä ihan mukavilla tuoleilla ja pöydillä kalustettu italialaisravintola-henkinen viritys. Pöydät tosin olisivat kaivanneet vähän rättiä tai liinan vaihtoa. Ulkona on terassi, mutta toisaalta siinä on myös parkkipaikka terassin edessä ja toisaalta parkkipaikan takana on kaunis merimaisema.

Asiakaspalvelu oli asiallista. Kasvissyöjälle oli se salaatti, mutta en tuon fetasalaatin perässä ehkä tänne erikseen hiihtäisi. Lasten kanssa voi varmaan tulla, syöttötuoli löytyy ja rattaat varmaan voi jättää ulos. Mutta ei tuo ruoka ollut ihan sillä tasolla mitä olisin toivonut, varsinkin eat.fi:n jännien hehkutusten jälkeen. Ehkä pizza on parempaa?

The Game

Continuing with the Rome experiences, we stayed at the Best Western Globus Hotel (friendly service, ok rooms, smoke got in the room through the air conditioning) and had lunch there (once, when we got there and were too tired to go elsewhere) and breakfast (every day for a week) and here is my account of it.

The restaurant is in the bottom floor of the hotel and serves a lunch (10e) and breakfast buffets (I’m not aware of the breakfast buffet price). The lunch consisted of: Pasta with a meat sauce, risotto and a vegetarian dish (can’t remember) alongside with salad components (tomato, cucumber, lettuce, olives and corn) and bread. The lunch was ok and as it is a buffet, you will get enough to eat. But considering some of the other restaurants in the area (more on these later), I found the food lacking.

The breakfast buffet was a lot better and is definitely worth the money when booking the hotel room. The buffet contained: Multiple different cereals and milk, fruits (apples, nectarines, pineapple pieces etc), deli meats (pork, salami, turkey and prosciutto or some dry-cured ham), cheese slices (Gouda? and Emmental), bread (rolls, toast and country bread), toppings (Nutella, butter, jams and cream cheese), scrambled eggs, sausages, yogurts, sweets (cream or chocolate filled and topped croissants and donuts, cakes and cookies), juices, coffee/tee/hot chocolate (either on request or using the machine) and water. The components of the breakfast were fresh and of good quality. This was always a very good start to the day.

There is a “game” concept, which is used in the decoration of the restaurant that can be seen in the paintings on the wall and other small details. Other than that the restaurant is clean and functioning, but quite obviously a restaurant of a hotel chain and lacking in any big personality.

The service was always very friendly and efficient in the restaurant as well as in the hotel in general. We always felt welcome and attended to during our stay.

Cesar’s Little Italy (breakfast)

Welcome to the Rome 2016 extravaganza! I’ll try to do a little write-up of the vacation in Rome that we had just last week. First things first, I’ll have to begin with a critique of the new Finnair policy of “randomly” picking seats on the plane.

With a family of five people, almost every one of us was distributed around the plane in different rows and you can imagine the horror of seating a first-time airplane travelling four year old child by themselves on a the plane. Now I do understand that they need to make more money, but this new policy of breaking up families (and other groups) on the plane is just too greedy. Shame on them. I did by the adjacent seats for the flight back and they did manage (after a phone call) to get the four year old to sit with the mother for the flight over there.

Anyhow, the flight to Rome went well and the service on the plane was as good as ever. But that is not the issue for this article. What to do on the Helsinki-Vantaa airport for food early in the morning?

Surprisingly (or not?) the best breakfast is outside the security gates, so leave a little early and go to the Cesar’s Little Italy on the ground floor of the Terminal 2. There is a breakfast buffet (9,90e, less for the children) that has all the usual fare of a Nordic hotel breakfast.

That means: Bread (many types, including croissants and buns), veggies (tomato, salad, cucumber, pickled cucumber, berries etc), deli meats, cheese slices, scrambled eggs, meatballs (or wieners, can’t remember), granola, yogurt, porridge, tea, coffee, milk, juices and non-alcoholic “home beer” (Kvass). There is also some wine, Cava etc on sale at the counter, where the buffet is paid for.

The breakfast was good, with an extensive selection of fresh ingredients to choose from. Buffet also works well for a family, as everyone can pick the things that they want and the whole process went very smoothly. The kids liked it as did I. And at this price this was easily the most cost-efficient restaurant on the premises. The price gouging going on after the security gates is even more horrible than what I remembered from the past.

The restaurant is clean and pretty stylish, with a Nordic look and feel. But it is also an airport restaurant, which means cold and efficient. The service was fast and friendly and they did give a discount for the children, even though it was not mentioned on the menu. For the vegetarians there is e.g. porridge and berries and veggies for a sandwich.

As a side-note, the blog got up to number 10 on the Finnish Top 100 ruokablogit, which is the highest so far. So hurrah for that.
