Cimitero Monumentale del Verano

Another lovely hot day in Rome and we decided to take in some more sights in the San Lorenzo district and it’s surroundings.

We walked from the hotel towards the cemetery Cimitero Monumentale del Verano and went in through the side entrance.

The area is beautiful in the quietly solemn way that cemeteries are. And we walked in awe of the intricate old mausoleums and and tombs, which were quite different from the simple headstones that are usual back home.

The main entrance to the cemetery is quite astonishing and this whole area is most certainly worth a visit when in Rome.

Villa Borghese

9/17/16

Just a quick note about this absolutely beautiful park in Rome. We walked through the park after our visit to the Rome Zoo and ate a small picnic close to the Piazza di Siena.

This park holds a very specific place in my heart as we came here with my wife (we were not married back then) on our first visit to Rome and had a lovely picnic, with some cheeses, bread and olives that we picked up on our way over here.

Take a half day and mosey on over to the wonderful gardens for a relaxing sit down under the trees.

Or do as we did and combine the visit with a excursion to the zoo, the kids will love it.

Rome Zoo (Bioparco)

Rome / Lazio / Italy - 6/28/16

For a wonderful day with the kids when in Rome, do go to zoo, it is excellent. There are multiple well created areas at the zoo, with many interesting and active animals.

And the favourite of our kids? The guinea pigs (we have a few back home), bunnies etc at the “petting zoo”/children’s area (could not really pet, but still, domesticated animals), by far.

But we did also enjoy all the giant turtles, crocodiles, bears and (of course) wolves. And do remember to visit the reptile house.

The zoo has many places to stop over and have a little rest, although during the weekday and early afternoon when we visited, many of the cafes and kiosks were closed. But at least one was open and we could take a moment in the shade and have some water and ice cream.
