Villa Borghese

9/17/16

Just a quick note about this absolutely beautiful park in Rome. We walked through the park after our visit to the Rome Zoo and ate a small picnic close to the Piazza di Siena.

This park holds a very specific place in my heart as we came here with my wife (we were not married back then) on our first visit to Rome and had a lovely picnic, with some cheeses, bread and olives that we picked up on our way over here.

Take a half day and mosey on over to the wonderful gardens for a relaxing sit down under the trees.

Or do as we did and combine the visit with a excursion to the zoo, the kids will love it.

Rome Zoo (Bioparco)

For a wonderful day with the kids when in Rome, do go to zoo, it is excellent. There are multiple well created areas at the zoo, with many interesting and active animals.

And the favourite of our kids? The guinea pigs (we have a few back home), bunnies etc at the “petting zoo”/children’s area (could not really pet, but still, domesticated animals), by far.

But we did also enjoy all the giant turtles, crocodiles, bears and (of course) wolves. And do remember to visit the reptile house.

The zoo has many places to stop over and have a little rest, although during the weekday and early afternoon when we visited, many of the cafes and kiosks were closed. But at least one was open and we could take a moment in the shade and have some water and ice cream.

Libreria Kappa Bistrot

Rome / Lazio / Italy - 6/28/16

This little restaurant was located on the street level of our hotel. After we came back from our jaunt to Piazza Bologna where we shopped for some clothes and shoes, we were exhausted and needed a little rest, but we were also famished. Due to all of this, the restaurant right next to the entrance of our hotel sounded just wonderful.

To start with, we had some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. I had the pasta all’amatriciana (6e) and this was a pretty good version of it, nothing spectacular, but ok. And at these prices I was quite happy with the meal.

The son had the burger (5e) and devoured it with a healthy appetite.

The older girl had the pasta con ragú alla bolognese (6e) and this was ok also, again, not amazing but good value for money. And the youngest one? She got to taste all of the dishes, as usual.

And my lovely wife had the pasta pomodoro (6e) which was a fair example of the simple dish.

The restaurant has an interesting decor that hinted at a library (hence the name, I guess) and a university. The atmosphere was relaxed and quite youthful as much of the clientele seemed to be students. The service was quick and attentive and we had a lovely time here.

After a siesta, we went to the Rome Zoo and the beautiful Villa Borghese. But I’ll write about that at a later date.
